I’ll give you a few minutes to ponder that number

this should actually be illegal, I’m not exaggerating here, this is a shining example of flagrantly unethical corporate behavior

no lay person can be reasonably expected to read a 178-page contract, or, having read it, can be reasonably expected to understand its terms (this is why we hire lawyers to read contracts for us)

that is, Barnes and Noble will enforce with the long arm of the law terms and conditions of use it cannot reasonably expect its users to have read or understand

I’m sure all the other T&C I agree to every day are just like this, I’ve just never been able to see so clearly how excessive these documents really are (one hundred and SEVENTY-EIGHT PAGES)

I just wrote the longest post about the ‘AAVE is a dialect not a language’ concept

and then saved it to my drafts because I’ve never even taken a sociolinguistics class and I spent the entire screed defining ‘language’ and ‘dialect’ which is always without fail a mistake and I’ve also never taken a, I dunno, philosophy of linguistics course? Whatever would teach me about the fundamental assumptions underlying linguistics study. Because that’s what I was doing, outlining my almost certainly extremely naive philosophical presuppositions. So my point about why that whole argument is dumb got buried under all the definitional bullshit I had to wade through to understand how I got to that conclusion, a conclusion based on only the most basic of knowledge of the subject

I can’t tell whether this makes me a terrible linguist or just an overgrown precocious child
