english is not a language with a gender system
at least in most dialects, english is a language with a pronoun system that encodes animacy (usually) and three possible pronoun sets for singular humans, two associated (flexibly) with social genders, one with a special grammatical purpose of gender/referent neutrality
in some speaker’s dialects this pronoun system is modular i.e. new pronouns are added as needed
